The villagers of Carmona, on Saturday, marched to the panchayat office demanding dismantling of the mobile tower which has been installed atop a building, forcing the panchayat body to pass a resolution to issue show cause notice to the company.
The villagers also decided to parade at the offices of the Goa State Pollution Control Board and Reliance Jio Infocomm their petitions demanding that the illegal Reliance Jio Infocomm tower be immediately dismantled in the interest of the villagers and their health.
They pointed out that the company had earlier denied installing a tower in the village right opposite the panchayat office amidst public uproar and fury.
Earlier, Reliance Jio Infocomm had denied that they were installing any mobile towers in Carmona.
The villagers, on the other hand, submitted a fresh petition to sarpanch Sandra Fernandes attached with letters and site inspection report from Goa State Pollution Control Board that they are in the process of issuing ‘consent to operate’ at the same location opposite D’Mello Pharmacy, the panchayat decided to act by issuing show cause notice to Reliance Jio Infocomm and also the owner of the building for illegally installing the mobile tower camouflaged as 6000 litre water tank.
The sarpanch informed the villagers that Reliance Jio Infocomm has breached provisions of the Panchayat Raj Act 1994 by installing the tower without the mandatory NOC from the village panchayat.
The villagers also pointed out that the Goa State Pollution Control Board is illegally issuing ‘consent to operate’ to tower companies without the mandatory NOC from the local bodies as required under notification published in official gazette dated November 28, 2013.
