The release of the book ‘Alfred Rose The King of Melody’ authored by Isidore Dantas was held at Directorate of Art and Culture, Patto.
The chief guest at the occasion was Minister for Art and Culture, Govind Gaude, while the guests of honour were MLA Joshua D’Souza and Chokha Ram Garg. Also present was the late singer’s wife Maria Rita Fernandes aka Rita Rose, among other dignitaries.
The event began with performances by Johnny B Gud and Bushka who sang songs written and composed by the late singer. There was also a performance by Rita Rose. This was followed by the book release at the hands of Gaude and the other dignitaries. Dantas was also felicitated at the occasion.
Addressing the audience, Gaude said that people who are lost in their talents are considered crazy but it’s these people who create history. He also encouraged the youth to give equal importance to the arts such as plays, singing and tiatr along with their studies.
In his address, Dantas said: “I am excited to present the book that consists of various song lyrics, compositions, photos and stories about Alfred Rose’s childhood to his last days that will help people remember him.”
He added that Alfred Rose was not hungry for materialistic goods and was naturally blessed with talent. “People still remember his songs and new artistes should be inspired by him.” He also requested Gaude to name an auditorium at the soon to constructed Ravindra Bhavan in Mapusa after Alfred Rose.
Speaking at the event, Rita Rose reminisced about the days when the singer was alive. She also added that Alfred Rose was instrumental in taking the Konkani language to an international level and he believed that one should be proud to speak the language outside their homes.
The main aim for authoring the book was for future generations to learn about Alfred Rose and his contributions in the field of Konkani entertainment.
