Pacer K Das claimed impressive figures of 5 for 69 as Goa restricted hosts Haryana to 263 for 9 on the opening day of their Round Three Elite, Group C, Ranji Trophy match being played at Rohtak, on Tuesday.
Goa captain Sagun Kamat won the toss and opted to bowl first. Seamer Lakshay Garg proved his decision right by giving Goa early breakthrough, removing Haryana opener S Rohilla (5) with team score reading 10 for 1. K Das then dismissed No 3 batsman C Bishnoi (16) to give the hosts another jolt as they struggled at 39 for 2.
Opener N Saini and No 4 batsman H Rana then began resurrecting Haryana’s innings as the duo added 116 runs for the third wicket. Das broke their partnership as he removed Saini for a well-made 64. Rana then in the company of next batsman P Vashisht played well, mixing caution with aggression and took the total to 216, when the latter departed after making a fluent 42.
Darshan Misal claimed Vashisht’s wicket, which remained his only scalp of the day. After that it was all Goan pacers show as K Das and Lakshay Garg combined well to take the next five wickets and restrict Haryana to a modest total of 263 for 9.
H Rana top scored for the hosts with 86 runs that included 10 hits to the fence.
For Goa, K Das claimed five wickets while Lakshay Garg gave him good support with 3 for 24. Darshan Misal took one wicket.
On the second day on Wednesday, visitors Goa will look to wind up hosts innings early and then put up a strong batting performance to overhaul Haryana’s first innings total.
