‘BJP will take decision at right time’
Panaji: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Sunday said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is considering allocating the vacant
cabinet berth to a woman MLA, underlining the party’s stance on women’s representation in governance.
Responding to a query from mediapersons regarding the unfilled cabinet position during a press conference at the state BJP office, Sawant
said the party leadership will take an appropriate decision at the right time, keeping in mind its commitment to women’s empowerment. The birth will be filled soon, sources said.
The berth has been vacant following the demise of agriculture minister Ravi Naik on October 15, 2025.
Highlighting past precedent, the Chief Minister pointed out that during his previous tenure, a woman legislator had been inducted into the cabinet.
He said this reflects the party’s consistent approach towards ensuring opportunities for women in leadership roles.
The BJP does not believe in promoting women leaders solely based on political lineage, the Chief Minister said, emphasising that the party aims to identify and elevate women from common backgrounds whenever an opportunity arises.
