CANACONA: A legal literacy programme on child trafficking and drug peddling on Goa beaches organised by the District Legal Services Authority in association with the Canacona Court was held at the Palolem beach on Friday.
Judge Sarika Faldessai said that awareness has to be created on the existing laws relating to child trafficking and drug peddling.
Advocate Joyce D’souza, in-charge of the committee, spoke on the causes of child exploitation. She dealt on issues such as false adoption, child marriages, dowry, kidnapping etc.
Canacona inspector Gurudas Kadam advised students to refrain from drugs. He said that persons involved in drugs cannot escape criminal investigations.
ARZ, NGO manager Juliana Lohar spoke about the role of her NGO in helping victims of child trafficking and drug addicts.
Mallikarjun college students, Canacona performed a street play in Konkani on drug trafficking and the impact on their families.
Also, present on the occasion were Elvis Fernandes, social worker, Mario Simon Rebello, chairperson of Canacona Municipal Council, Kishore Poinguinkar, Para Legal Services member, Guillermo Martins, president of the Senior Citizens Forum in Canacona, Dr F M Nadaf, acting principal of Shri Mallikarjun College, Canacona, Jose Gomes, principal of Government Higher Secondary, Canacona and Rajashree Pagi, councillor of Palolem ward.
