Maharashtra native held for sexually assaulting minor girl

VASCO: Mormugao police Friday arrested one Mangesh Jaiwant Wadekar, a native of Vengurla in Maharashtra and presently residing at Sada, Vasco, for allegedly sexually assaulting a ten-year-old girl.

According to the police, a complaint in this regard has been lodged by the father of the victim. According to the complaint lodged, the accused called the victim in his rented premises on March 3 and sexually assaulted her. Police said that the accused later threatened the victim with dire consequences if she revealed about the incident to anybody.

Swinging into action following the complaint lodged on late Thursday evening, Mormugao police arrested the accused under  Sections 376, 504 (2) of the Indian Penal Code, Section 8 of the Goa Children’s Act and Section 3 read with 4 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012.

The accused was later produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Vasco, and has been remanded to seven-day police custody. Police inspector Kapil Nayak is further investigating the case.
