Vasco: The former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh Shivraj Singh Chauhan, on Sunday, urged the people of Goa to join Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for making India one of the strongest and superpower nation in the world.
Chauhan was speaking to a largely attended gathering during a plantation drive of fruit-bearing saplings near government primary school at Zuarinagar in the Cortalim constituency in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant ‘Babu’ Kavlekar, Commissioner for NRI Affairs Narendra Sawaikar, BJP state unit president Vinay Tendulkar, Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha, organising secretary Satish Dhond, general secretary Sadanand Shet Tanawade, Cortalim BJP president Joel Fernandes, general secretary Narayan Naik, Sancoale sarpanch Girish Pillai and others.
Chauhan, who is also the national convenor for the party’s membership drive, further appealed to the people to plant more and more trees so that the environment is protected. “Rise in air pollution is a growing concern, and can be prevented by planting more and more trees,” he said.
Prominent persons from Cortalim constituency who joined the BJP as a part of membership drive include ex-sarpanch of Cortalim panchayat Senia Pereira, Dr Krishna Powar, former panch of Sancoale panchayat Nilesh Dalvi, president of Shree Hanumant Devasthan Rama Shelke and others.
