Regina Martyrum, Our Lady of Rosary HSS set up summit clash




A strike each from Yukthi Patil, Daisy Crasto and Suveda Kokate helped Regina Martyrum High School, Assolna blanked Rosary High School 3-0 and enter the finals of Subroto Mukherjee Cup Football for Girls Under-17, at Nehru Stadium, Fatorda on Thursday.

In the mega final scheduled on July 28, they will take on Our Lady of Rosary Higher Secondary School, Navelim who also made it to the summit clash after completing a 6-0 rout Our Lady of Carmel High School, Curtorim in the second semis.

In the first semis, the girls of Regina Martyrum resorted to attacking play right from the word go and took the lead in the 23rd minute through their tall and skillful playmaker Yukthi Patil.

Regina Martyrum, who moved right inside the Navelim’s box on several occasion, were not able to break the strong defence of their rival until Yukthi came her own to blast a rocket like effort from 20 yards that beat Rosary keeper Mamta Rajkumari hands down. The goal came off following a smart pass from Raia Pereira from the right flank.

Regina Martyrum continued their good show with their midfielders comprising Yukthi Patil, Daisy Crasto, Razia Pereira and Clency Miranda working in complete unison to produce several goalscoring chances. But their strikers received a stiff resistance from the defenders of Navelim school.

In the second session too, the girls of Assolna school began dictating the terms to their Navelim counterparts and in the process scored two more goals.

In the 35th minute Daisy Crastao buttressed Regina Martyrum’s lead as after receiving a neat pass from Clency Miranda she shot the ball to the far corner of Rosary’s nets from inside the box. Thereafter, striker Suveda Kokate bulged the nets with an angular effort off a pass from Daisy Crasto to complete a 3-0 win that facilitated their entry into the finals.

In the other semifinals, Our Lady of Rosary HSS, Navelim rode on fine hat-trick by Cia Almeida to crush Our Lady of Carmel HS, Curtorim 6-0. Chelsea Crasto,
Tercy Pinto and Joyvi Fernandes contributed with a goal each.
