Rosary Higher Secondary School, Navelim emerged as South Goa champions in the Subroto Mukherjee Cup Football Tournament defeating Our Lady of Piety High School, Collem-Dharbhadora 5-0 in an almost one side final match played at artificial grounds, Fatorda-Margao on Friday.
Flani Costa opened the scoring in favour of Rosary Higher Secondary, School when she bulged the nets in the very 3rd minute on receiving a defence splitting pass from the right flank.
Flani then went on to complete her brace of goals in the 40th minute with a deft placement shot to beat the rival keeper.
So pronounced was the attack of Rosary Higher Secondary School that goals came at regular intervals thereafter with Tanya Rebello bulging the nets in the 9th minute.
Hardly had the cheers died down after Rosary took a two goals lead with the third one coming in the 11th minute when Clency Miranda went around the box, dodging a couple of rival defenders and then slammed the ball to the far end of the nets.
The second session saw Rosary Higher Secondary slowing down the pace of the match a great deal, knowing very well that the game is already in their pocket and preferred to pass the ball among themselves for most part of the second session.
As a matter of fact, Rosary Higher Secondary School could have scored more goals in the second half given the fact that most part of the play belonged to them, with not much resistance at all coming from their rivals. Rosary Higher Secondary scored their fifth goal through medio Yukthi Patil in the 44th minute.
Our Lady of Piety High School did nothing much and struggled for the major part of the proceedings to defend their fort.
For major part of the proceedings the ball was confined in Our Lady of Piety School half where one saw Nisha Patil and company struggling to contain the swift moving Rosary Higher Secondary forwards.
The match looked pedestrian in the final strages of the match with Piety’s Velcina trying a long shot which was easily grabbed by Rosary Higher Secondary School keeper Gauri Naik who had a perfect holiday under the bar. Rosary Higher Secondary School, Navelim have now qualified for State level finals.
