Salgaocar upset Marc Caterers on way to semis

Benaulim: Salgaocar Veterans squeezed past fighting Marc Caterers, Nuvem 5-4 in the tie-breaker to enter the semi-finals of the 19th VM Salgaocar Memorial Veterans Soccer organised by the Prime Sports Club and played at St John the Baptist ground Dando, Benaulim.

The match had a dazzling start with Nuvem taking a stunning lead in the 2nd minute when striker Francis Vodlo took a short pass from Seby Vaz and drilled a right footer past the baffled Bharat Morje at the Salgaocar goal.

Hardly had the cheer died down that Salgaocar Veterans responded quickly and equalised two minutes later through Anthony Pereira who latched onto a pass by Roque Pereira before avoiding a challenge of rival defender Milagres Fernandes to slot the ball past Salim Bepari.

Thereafter, the pace of the match fizzled out gradually. After the change of ends Nuvem wasted a golden opportunity when speedy Seby Vaz ran past Robert Fernandes and Roque Carneiro on a counter attack and squared to the completely unmarked Francis Vodlo who sent in a feeble shot straight into the hands of Bharat

Morje.

In the tie-breaker Salgaocar Veterans were successful through Climax Lawrence, Anthony Khambo, Pascoal Pereira and Robert Fernandes while Bobby Crasto, Seby Vaz and Francis Pachet scored for Nuvem.
