The match between Our Lady of Piety High School and St Joseph Vaz High School, Sancoale evoked keen interest as both the teams displayed positional play and fire power too.
Had the shots taken by St Jospeh Vaz High School girls particularly those unleashed by Pallavi Raj, Reshma Bhutia, Snovia Carvalho and Sania Lucas entered the nets, the script of the match could have been a different one. But that had not to be as their tries in the second session missed the mark narrowly when the team came charging up, looking hungry for goals.
Our Lady of Piety High School keeper Velcina Azavedo proved to be a good pair of hands as she brought off two smart saves in the last ten minutes of play.
Ossana Fernandes, Nisha Patil, Priti Lakka, Tanvi Khedekar and Mellyn Mascarenhas gave a good account of themselves in the midfield and the defence, keeping a hawk eye on the strikers of the rival team who constantly prawled on to find the mark.
Nusrat Kotiwale who played a good game for Our Lady of Piety, on one occasion made a dash for the forward pass in the box, but when she came in possesion of the ball she was dispossessed in the nick of time of shooting into the goal. St Jospeh Vaz could have pulled a goal back towards the end of the match when Sheba Das unleashed a shot which was somehow parried away by confident looking Our Lady of Piety High School keeper Velcina Azavedo.
St Jospeh’s keeper Reshmi Dhanuk also proved to be a good pair of hands but she could do nothing to stop the strikes that came to her due to some defensive lapses.
