The state government on Monday asked the Public Works Department (PWD) to suggest an alternate route to de-notify the state highway road 8 which passes through Chandor village in South Goa.

“We had discussed the issue before but from PWD we need technical view as to how we need to go forward. I am personally of the opinion that the state highway road should not pass through Chandor and this is the view of my department. My department has gone ahead and de-notified that road also as per the demand of the people,” said Deputy Chief Minister Vijai Sardesai while interacting with media persons in the state Secretariat in Porvorim. Villagers have been opposing the particular road after PWD proposed widening of the state highways, the people have apprehension that their old heritage and architecture may be damaged.
Former Minister Joaquim Alemao, who has been taking up
this issue, attended the meeting of the concerned government officials which
was chaired by Deputy Chief
Sardesai said that he will hold a meeting of the concerned officials again on June 10 and decide the future course of action.
