Ravindra Bhavan to host birth centennial year celebrations of Dr. Manohar Rai Sardessai today
Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, is all set to organise the birth centennial year celebration of noted Konkani poet, writer, French translator and scholar
Dr. Manohar Rai Sardessai on January 18, 5 p.m.
As part of the celebrations, a musical programme based on the songs penned by Dr. Sardessai will be performed by Rajesh Madgaonkar, Sonia Shirsat, Divya Chafadkar and Gautami Hede Bambolkar. They will be accompanied by musician Vishnu Shirodkar and his team.
MLA of Margao Digambar Kamat, Adv. Uday Bhembre, Jnanpith awardee Damodar Mauzo and daughter of Dr. Sardessai, Maya Sardessai will be the guests and speakers for the programme.
This year, youth poets from Goa Rajat Ashok Hegde, Supriya Kankonkar, and Mamata Deepak Verlekar will be awarded the Dr. Manohar Rai Sardessai Yuva Srujan Puraskar.
The awards for the Dr. Manohar Rai Sardessai Kavya Lekhan Competition organised by Ravindra Bhavan Margao for the age group of 15-30 years, will be presented on the occasion.
There will also be an exhibition of photos and books.
With the aim of enlightening the youth on the immense contribution of Dr Sardessai to Konkani, Sanjana Publication is also publishing a book on unknown facts/ incidents and the journey of this literary great. The articles will be penned by Bhembre, Mauzo, Sahitya Academy awardee Madhav Borkar, Mukesh Thali, Maya Sardessai, Dr. Hanumant Chopdekar, Umesh Sardessai, Sunil Sardessai, Mitra Borkar, Shailendra Mehta, and Dr. Rajay Pawar.
Besides this, there will also be a celebration at 10 a.m. at Ravindra Bhavan, Sanquelim.
