Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has announced that Goa has been placed on alert following the deadly car blast in Delhi on Monday, emphasising that the move is a precautionary measure aimed at maintaining peace and order. In response to the blast, Goa Police have stepped up security across the state, conducting widespread checks and patrols to ensure public safety.
The Chief Minister expressed his deep sorrow over the tragic incident in Delhi, offering condolences to the families of the victims and prayers for the recovery of those injured. “My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured,” Sawant said.
While confirming that the blast in Delhi has no direct connection to Goa, Sawant stressed the importance of remaining vigilant. “The bomb blast in Delhi is a serious matter, and as a responsible state government, we cannot afford to have any lapses in security arrangements in Goa,” the Chief Minister added.
In response to the heightened security concerns, Goa Police conducted nakabandis (checkpoints) at multiple locations across the state late Monday night. These included key highways, major junctions, and bus stands. Authorities focussed on random vehicle checks, particularly targeting interstate buses and cars arriving from outside the state. Additional security measures were implemented at railway stations, bus depots, and major entry points into Goa.
The blast in Delhi occurred around 6.52 pm near the Red Fort Metro Station, a busy area frequently crowded with commuters. The explosion, which involved a Hyundai i20, caused extensive damage to several vehicles and resulted in multiple casualties. In the aftermath, authorities have placed the national capital on high alert as investigations continue.
