In 2024, Goa welcomed 99.41 lakh domestic and 4.68 lakh foreign tourists
Panaji: The increase in domestic and foreign tourist footfall by 22% and 3% respectively indicate a robust growth in Goa’ tourism sector reaffirming its position as a preferred tourist destination, the Economic Survey 2024-25 stated.
The Survey pointed out that the state has witnessed a notable 21% growth “which promises a very positive trend of the state’s tourism”.
It said that in 2023, Goa received 81.75 lakh domestic and 4.53 lakh foreign tourists, totalling to 86.28 tourists. During the year 2024, Goa welcomed 99.41 lakh domestic tourists and around 4.68 lakh international tourists, bringing the total to 104.09 lakh tourists.
“Goa’s 3.36% growth in foreign tourist and 21.6% growth in domestic tourist arrivals in 2024 as compared to 2023 signifies the state’s commitment in providing world-class amenities to the visitors,” the Survey said.
Under the Ease of Doing Business (EODB) initiative, the number of registered hotels in the state has increased from approximately 3,000 in 2022 to nearly 9,000 in 2024 across various categories, ensuring visitors have abroader range of accommodationoptions, including homestays.
“The state government is promoting Goa as a model of regenerative tourism with the Ekadasha Teertha campaign. This campaign positions Goa as the first and only state in India to launch regenerative tourism,” it said.
The Survey said that the Centre has sanctioned Rs 90.74 crore to construct the Town Square at Porvorim. The workmainly consists of underground parking for 200 vehicles including two-wheelers, amphitheatre, entrance plaza, kiosk with cafeteria, toilet block and land development.
It also said that Rs 97.46 crore has been sanctioned for the Digital Museum at Farmagudi, Ponda to bring the life and legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj to the modern era which will help educate, inspire, captivate and enrich a patriotic attitude among the visiting population.
