22 rescued from drowning in first weekend of 2026

Twenty-two persons were rescued from drowning off Goa’s beaches during the first weekend of 2026, said Drishti Marine.

At Arambol beach, a 36-year-old Russian tourist was rescued from about 50 metres into the sea by lifesavers. At Morjim beach, three tourists, including two men from Delhi and a Russian woman, were rescued.

“Two single rescue incidents were reported at Baga beach over the weekend including a 25-year-old man from Karnataka and a 60-year-old Russian tourist who signalled for help while in the water,” Drishti Marine said.

In a double rescue at Calangute beach, a father-daughter duo from Delhi, aged 60 and 21 years respectively, were rescued by three lifesavers. In another incident at the same beach, a male teenager from Uttar Pradesh was rescued, while two men from Noida, aged 28 and 43 years, were rescued using a rescue board.

At Candolim beach, a 10-year-old girl from Moscow was rescued in a single incident.

At Velsao beach, two 30-year-old male tourists from Bihar were rescued after being caught in a rip current. Similarly, at Colva beach, a 27-year-old woman from Bengaluru was rescued after being drifted far out to sea and becoming exhausted.

Two male tourists in their mid-twenties from Pune were rescued off Agonda beach after being caught in a rip current. In another double rescue at Agonda, a 26-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man, both from Mumbai, were caught in a rip current and rescued by two lifesavers.

At Palolem beach, two men from Andhra Pradesh in their mid-forties were rescued after being pulled nearly 100 metres into the sea by a rip current. At the same beach, a 32-year-old man from Bengaluru fell into deep water while kayaking about 800 metres from the shore. A Drishti Marine lifesaver rushed to the spot on a jet-ski and brought him safely ashore.
