Goa’s ‘The Awakening’ clinches regional award

‘The Awakening’, a short film by students from Don Bosco College, Panaji, has been named the South Asia Regional Category Winner at the Don Bosco Global Youth Film Festival, recently held at the Loretto Theatre in the USA. Three films from Goa were officially selected for screening at the festival: ‘The Awakening’, directed by Rameez Shaikh; ‘Echoes of the Earth’, directed by Abin Francis; and ‘A Wish for a Change’, directed by Prathit Fernandes.

‘The Awakening’ addresses society’s indifference towards environmental issues.. The film’s message stresses the urgent need for everyone to act now to protect the planet for future generations.

‘Echoes of the Earth’, talks about the need for a healthier environment in the face of rising deforestation and pollution.

‘A Wish for a Change’, is inspired by Don Bosco’s vision, aiming to create something beautiful that represents the students’ hopes for a better world.

The theme of the Don Bosco Global Film Festival 2024 was ‘I Have A Dream: Youth and Climate Change – Making Mother Earth Cleaner and Greener’. The festival received 1,287 submissions from 136 countries, and 120 films were selected for the final event in the USA. These films were screened simultaneously at Don Bosco institutions around the world.
