His lone strike secures FC Goa’s 1-0 win against Vasco SC; Cortalim win

Tilak Maidan: FC Goa clinched a narrow 1-0 win over Vasco SC in the Goa Professional League at Tilak Maidan on Friday.

FC Goa  struck first with a stunning 48th-minute goal from Tomba, who fired into the top right corner after a precise through ball from Aaksh. Vasco had a golden opportunity to equalize when Sapam Meitei’s pinpoint cross found Omkar Gaunkar at the far post, but he failed to connect. Late drama unfolded as FC Goa’s Shawn Fernandes was sent off for a second yellow card, but the defense held firm to seal the win.

The opening ten minutes were a battle, with both sides pressing forward in search of a breakthrough. FC Goa’s Akash Oraow soon turned up the heat, skillfully beating his marker on the left flank before sliding a precise pass to Likson Rebello at the edge of the box. Rebello controlled well and unleashed a low strike, but it lacked the venom to trouble the goalkeeper.

FC Goa came close to breaking the deadlock when Akash threaded a through ball that sliced open the Vasco defense. The pass found Saish Gaunkar in a one-on-one situation with the goalkeeper. Gaunkar took a touch inside the box and fired a low shot, but the Vasco custodian reacted sharply to deny him.
