Celebrating empowerment of the visually impaired

The National Association for the Blind (NAB) Goa State Branch will celebrate its 42nd anniversary and alumni meet on February 9, 10 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. at its center in Santa Cruz. The event, themed ‘Vision Beyond Sight,’ will honour the achievements of visually impaired individuals and spread awareness about their rights, education, and job opportunities.

The day will begin with a venue orientation for visually impaired guests, followed by the release of the NAB Goa anthem, representing the organisation’s journey and mission. A total of 52 alumni from government and private sectors, as well as self-employed professionals, will be honoured for their achievements.

The event will also feature talks by experts on assistive technology and legal rights for visually impaired individuals. Speakers include assistant professor Sudesh Gawde, advisory member of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities Vishant Nagvekar, former senior assistant editor Prakash Kamat, and inspector of Department of Handicrafts, Textile, and Coir Anita Mahale.

An interactive discussion will allow attendees to share daily life challenges and explore solutions for better accessibility and inclusion.

NAB Goa will also appreciate employers who provide job opportunities to visually impaired individuals and promote inclusive workplaces. 

The event will be graced by chief guest health minister of Goa Vishwajit P. Rane, and secretary of the State Commission for Persons with Disabilities, Goa, Taha Haziq, as the guest of honour.
