Panaji

The capital city has been experiencing significantly warmer nights over the past two days, with minimum temperatures climbing more than 4 degrees Celsius above normal levels, according to data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

On Wednesday, Panaji recorded a minimum temperature of 24.6°C, which was 4 degrees above normal.

Similarly, Mormugao also witnessed warmer nights with a minimum temperature of 24.4°C, which was 2.2 degrees above
normal.

The trend was seen from Tuesday when Panaji recorded a minimum temperature of 23.2°C, which was 2.6 degrees above normal, while Mormugao registered 23°C.

Maximum temperatures have also remained elevated, with Mormugao recording the highest temperature of 34.6°C on Wednesday. On Monday, the maximum temperature had peaked at 36.9°C (3.9 degrees above normal), while the night time temperature was relatively closer to normal at 21.2°C.

The IMD said that mainly easterly winds are prevailing in the lower levels of atmosphere over Goa state. Both maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to remain above normal, hovering around 35°C and 22°C respectively, stated the forecasts.

The weather department said continued dry conditions will prevail across both North and South Goa, with shallow to moderate fog likely in the mornings.

These unusually warm conditions, particularly at night, are a deviation from normal February temperatures, typically a month when Goa experiences relatively cooler weather.
