One of the oldest social clubs in Goa, Clube Tennis Gasper de Dias, Miramar, formally established in 1926, will be organising year-long centenary celebrations beginning from April 1, 2025 to March 31, 2026.
The launch of these celebrations will be held on April 1, 5 p.m. and will take place in the in the presence of Governor of Goa P.S. Sreedharan Pillai and Dr. Justice Ferdino I. Rebello ( Retd. Chief Justice, High Court of Allahabad) and club members. The club will also launch its anniversary logo specially designed for the occasion.
The programme list for the year includes a letter writing contest for senior citizens, birthday or anniversary celebration of any individual completing 100 years (with proof), in-house games, sports tournaments, and cooking contests for club members, inter-school activities, quiz competition, acknowledgement of achievements of prominent Goan citizens and sportsmen.
“We are going to tie up with different organisations. Among these is the Goa Philatelic and Numismatic Society, which will be hosting activities for senior citizens and a display of stamps related to clubs and coins,” shared chairman of the club’s centenary celebration committee Sanjeev Sardesai at a press briefing. “There will also be monthly talks by prominent personalities. Besides this, we are compiling a coffee table book that will be released at the valedictory ceremony including all the facts and activities of the club.”
There will also be a discover ‘Tiswadi Treasure Hunt’ on two Sundays by bicycle, motorcycle and cars while the club in collaboration with the Directorate of Education and Goa Science Centre will hold an inter-school awareness session on ‘Wealth from Waste’.
Community events like kite flying for children and sand castle building for parents will be held at Miramar beach in association with the Tourism Department. A photography contest will be held in association with the Goa Union of Journalists.
Other activities to look forward to are Children’s Day with under-privileged children, and Christmas dance event.
