Summer vacation from May 1 to June 3

Special Correspondent: Panaji : The education directorate on Friday issued the final notification, officially announcing the commencement of the academic year 2025-26 from April 7, 2025 for Class VI to Class X and Class XII.

Students of these classes will have to attend the school only till 11.30 am, up to April 30, after which they will have the summer vacation from May 1 to June 3.

Their classes will reopen on June 4, with normal school timings.

The notification has added that there will be a break of one week between the end of the academic year 2024-25 and the beginning of the new academic year 2025-26, for the said classes.

The first term for these classes will be held from April 7 to October 15, while the second term will be held from November 4 to March 24, 2026.

The first summative/first-term exam will be held so as to end on October 7.

The second summative/second-term exam will be held to end preferably by March 13, 2026, and the final annual exam result will not be declared before April 4, 2026.

However, for Class I to Class V and Class XI, the new academic year will commence from June 4, 2025.

The government had issued a draft notification in this regards on March 13 and given five days for public to give feedback about the shifting of the commencement of the new academic year. The window was later extended to 15 days.

Subsequently, objections, recommendations and suggestions were received from the public on the draft notification and after due consideration of the same, rules have been notified, as per the education department notification.

Several parents had been opposing the particular move by the government and had even moved the High Court in this regard.
