The final-year students of the Department of Garment Technology, Government Polytechnic, Panaji, presented ‘Sushegad’, a fashion show showcasing Goa’s relaxed lifestyle. The Garment Technology programme, Goa’s only three-year fashion diploma, has been holding these themed shows for the last 20 years.

The show had six rounds, each inspired by different aspects of Goan culture.

The first round, ‘Beaches of Goa’, featured designs based on water, boats, rocks, shells, coconut trees, and sand. ‘Goan Food’, saw outfits inspired by local dishes like sangria, kakonn bread, ross omelette, fish cones, and doce. For ‘Goan Architecture’, the designs featured motifs of staircases, windows, churches, forts, temples, and beach shacks while ‘Art & Craft’, highlighted traditional Goan crafts such as Kunbi fabric, basket weaving, chitari art, kaavi murals, and paintings by Goan artists. For ‘Goan Dances’, students designed outfits inspired by folk dances like dhangar, fugdi, goff, mando, and ghodemodni.

The final round, ‘Festivals of Goa’, celebrated local festivals including Chikalkalo, Bonderam, São João, Zatra, Shigmo, and Carnival.

The show was choreographed by Monty Sally, with Assis managing sound, stage, and lighting. Makeup and hairstyling were handled by Samiksha Karmalkar Harji, with assistance from Alkin Sayyad and Muskaan Khan.

Students were guided by Kavita Mone and Jane Fernandes for apparel construction and Vanali Ballikar for accessories. Senior lecturer Rahila Khan coordinated costume design and the overall event.

Awards were given for Best Male and Female Designs, Best Accessories, Most Creative Design, and Best Student. Director of Technical Education, Vivek B. Kamat was the guest of honour and presented certificates and mementos to the students.

Although chief guest Rohan Khaunte could not attend the event, he visited the students during rehearsals and encouraged them.
