Diedre Lobo believes that one never stops learning, a principle she imbibed from her mother, India’s only opera diva, late Celia Lobo. And having followed in her musical footsteps, Deidre has been teaching voice since 1988.

“I use a lot of my mother’s techniques with regards to breathwork and approaching high and low notes. When you talk about coaching, in her opinion there is no such thing as not having time to practice. These are the things I use in my coaching,” she says.

The international vocal coach and concert artist teaches vocal techniques in the genres of Pop, Jazz, Rap, Broadway, Western, Classical, Indian Classical- Hindustani / Carnatic. This kind of technique also helps speakers and drama students in their performances.

Over the years, she has taught over 65+ workshops and masterclasses and worked with names like Tara Sutaria, Meher Mistry, Shiamak Davar, Dhawal Chandawadkar, Aditi Paul, etc.

And having been in India since March this year, conducting vocal workshops in Chennai, Pune, and Mumbai, the U.S. based artiste is now all set to train vocal teachers and students in Goa.

The workshop will span over two days (April 4 and 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.) at Child’s Play Foundation, Panaji.

Day 1 of the workshop is meant for voice teachers and will focus on vocal technique, performance, and demo teaching. “I will coach them on how to outline their lessons, how to work with issues with students, vocal technique issues, performance issues, etc,” she says.

The second day is open to singers of all levels, from beginners to professionals. “This will focus on singing technique and performance. The first part is group technique where everybody will work on vocal technique as a group. I will also be working on singers one on one,” shares Deidre, who

is also founder and artistic director of the Celia Lobo Academy of Voice and One Voice Institute of Music and Art (OVIMA Global), a performing arts institute. In fact, as drama director, she has directed over 17 musical, and stage productions. She has also been principal cantor and choral director for many churches in the United States, and continues to do that.
