Push for app-based services

Special Correspondent

Panaji: Stating that the government will introduce reforms in taxi business within the next few days, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday said the police as also the transport department have been instructed to take strict action against any taxi business-related disturbances, especially when tourists are involved.

“Such situations will not be tolerated,” Sawant warned, adding that all taxis need to be under the app-based aggregators.

The Chief Minister had chaired a meeting on Tuesday on the related law and order situation, in the light of recent clashes involving taxi drivers.

It was also informed that the police inspector Sunil Gudlar, formerly in-charge of the Konkan Railway police station in Margao, has been suspended. Furthermore, head constable Mohammad Hussain has also been suspended.

Both these police staffers were caught red-handed by the anti-corruption bureau while accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 from a meat trader.

Sawant also informed that search is on as regards a recent armed robbery at a Dona Paula residence.
