A 20-year-old boy from Lucknow was found dead in his hostel room on the campus of a prestigious academic institute in Sancoale, making it the third student suicide in five months at the educational establishment.

Police said that the boy was scheduled to appear for an exam on Thursday. His family had been trying to contact him since the previous day. After failing to get a response, they requested the campus authorities to check on him. When the door was opened using a spare key, he was found dead.

The previous two suicide incidents occurred during exam periods—in December and March. Though sources cited exam pressure as a likely contributing factor, Verna police stated that investigations are in the preliminary stage and no foul play
is suspected.

The boy’s death has sent shockwaves through the institution, affecting both students and staff, raising serious concerns about student well-being and mental health on campus.

At 10.24 am, Verna police received a call from Arjun Halarnkar, PRO of BITS Pilani, informing them of the incident. SDPO Vasco Gurudas Kadam and PI Verna Anand Shirodkar visited the hostel, where they confirmed that the boy had died by suicide.

He was declared dead by Dr Paresh Mahabal
of BITS Pilani.

Verna police have registered an unnatural death (UD) under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha
Sanhita (BNSS).

PI Anand Shirodkar is conducting further inquiry.
