Mapusa: The Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC), on Friday, completed the demolition of an old Portuguese-era bungalow near Kranti Veer Chowk and another dangerous structure at Shetyewaddo.

The bungalow, owned by Rajendra Desai Deshprabhu and formerly occupied by Dr Chandu Borkar, was declared unsafe in 2017 under Section 190 of the Goa Municipalities Act, 1968. Though portions were demolished earlier, the structure remained hazardous due to lack of maintenance.

A demolition squad was deployed on Wednesday, but work was halted for larger machinery. On Friday, the MMC resumed and completed the demolition using earth-moving equipment in the presence of municipal officials.

Municipal Engineer II Prashant Narvekar said, “We have completed demolition of an old house near Kranti Veer Chowk as the structure was posing danger.”

Earlier in the day, the MMC also demolished a closed house near Paulo Garage in Shetyewaddo, identified as dangerous due to cracked walls.
