Chinchinim

United Boys of Ambaulim defeated Sao Jose de Areal Sports Club 1-0 in the Anil Kamat Memorial Tournament, held at the Chinchinim Church Ground on Monday.

Ambaulim’s Joel Barreto early strike secured them the victory, while goalkeeper John Fernandes  stood firm between the posts making crucial saves to deny multiple San Jose attempts.

Despite the loss, Areal’s Ashnoy Gomes was named Man of the Match for his efforts.

In the first half, Ambaulim pressed hard for a breakthrough.

Their persistence paid off in the 2nd minute when Joel Barreto netted for United Boys, giving them an early advantage.

Despite the setback, San Jose de Areal launched repeated attacks but were denied by sharp defending and excellent goalkeeping.

Ashnoy Gomes had a clear chance in the 7th minute but missed, while Tyson Carvalho’s powerful 13th-minute shot failed to hit the target. Bersal Viegas came close in the 17th minute, only to be denied by United Boys goalkeeper John Fernandes, who delivered multiple key saves throughout the match.

Barreto nearly added a second in the 20th minute, but San Jose keeper Agio Antao stood firm.

In the second half, San Jose de Areal continued to press, including a well-taken corner and a late strike by Gomes, but Fernandes was unbeatable on the day.

At full-time, United Boys of Ambaulim emerged winners, with John Fernandes’ performance proving decisive. Areal’s Ashnoy Gomes was named Man of the Match.
