Govt invites bids for project under PPP mode; last date Oct 21
Mapusa: Finally, after waiting for more than a decade, the people of Mapusa can expect a new bus stand project to materialise, as bids have been invited from interested parties for the redevelopment, operation, maintenance and transfer of new infrastructure in the town on a public-private partnership basis.
The Directorate of Transport has issued a notice inviting separate bids for the redevelopment, operation, maintenance and transfer of the Margao and Mapusa bus stands under the public-private partnership (PPP) mode on a Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) model.
As per the notice, the Mapusa project will cover 32,250 sqm of land, with October 21 set as the last date for submission of bids.
Deputy Speaker and Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza said that in the recently concluded Assembly, I had raised the issue of the Mapusa bus terminus and added that for the last six years I have only been asking for this project, which has been pending since 2007.
“I am happy that the government has finally invited bids for the Mapusa bus stand project, though the journey has not been easy, with several hurdles along the way. There were times I felt that nobody wanted the Mapusa bus stand project to happen,” said the Deputy Speaker.
He further appealed for cooperation from everyone to ensure that the project is taken up and completed.
The bus stand project is one of the many long-pending and much-awaited projects for the town.
Preliminary work on the project began in February 2015, wherein landfilling was undertaken as the area, measuring 23,000 square metres, was low-lying.
The work was estimated at Rs 1.32 crore. The plan for the bus stand-cum-multi-level parking project was finalised in 2018. Later in February 2024, an interim bus stand, which is now known as the interstate bus stand, was made operational.
In July 2025, the Mapusa Municipal Council in its meeting gave its approval for the new KTC bus stand project to be taken up on a public-private
partnership basis.
The project proposal was received from the Directorate of Transport seeking permission to use the land of the Mapusa KTC bus terminus for redevelopment.
