ICAR–Central Coastal
Agricultural Research Institute (CCARI), Old Goa, received the Best Institution Award for excellence in campus water conservation at the 6th National Water Award 2024 held in New Delhi on Tuesday.

The award recognises the institute’s work in water efficiency research, conservation models and climate-resilient agricultural technologies designed for coastal and Western Ghat regions.

Its research demonstrates how integrated water governance — including large-scale rainwater harvesting and in-situ conservation systems such as aquaculture in conserved water resources — enhances farm productivity.

At the ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan, President Droupadi Murmu conferred the citation in the presence of Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil.

The award was received by ICAR–CCARI director
Dr Praveen Kumar along with research scientists Dr Sujeet Desai, Dr Trivesh Mayekar and Dr Uthappa AR, whose technical contributions strengthened the institute’s water stewardship programme.

ICAR–CCARI said it dedicates the honour to Goa’s progressive farmers, acknowledging their cooperation, innovation mindset and willingness to adopt sustainable water-management practices.

The institute said it  is committed to climate-smart agriculture, community water literacy and integrated ecosystem-based development in the region.
