‘Urja’ sweeps top honours at Kala Academy one-act play competition

Kala Academy concluded its High School Level One-Act Play Competition 2025-26 (English Category), recognising outstanding performances across schools, individual talent, and technical excellence.

In the Best Performance category, the 1st prize of
Rs 7,000 was awarded to ‘Urja’ by GVM’s Rajmata Padmavati Raje Saundekar High School, Ramnathi, Bandora, Ponda. The 2nd prize of
Rs 5,000 went to ‘Who Had A Fall’ from Sunshine Worldwide School, Old-Goa, while the 3rd prize of Rs 3,000 was bagged by ‘She Who Dared to Dream’ of Bhatikar Model High School, Gogol, Margao.

The Consolation Prize I of Rs 2,000 was awarded to ‘Wings of Fire’ from G S Amonkar Vidya Mandir, Mapusa. Individual prizes included Best Acting—Male: 1st prize (Rs 1,000) to Shayan Haghighatgoo (Rahul, Who Had A Fall) and 2nd prize
(Rs 500) to Zayn Rikarty (Prince Leo, She Who Dared To Dream). Merit certificates for male acting went to Vighnesh Shirodkar (Dr Kalam) and Johaan Naaraayan (Rajesh). Best Acting—Female awards: 1st prize
(Rs  1,000) Dhanvi D Tamse (Mother, Urja), 2nd prize
(Rs 500) Ahana Singh (Kavya, Who Had A Fall).

Merit certificates were awarded to Sara P Naik (Urja), Naisha Markande (Gothel), Rida Nadaf (Rapunzel), and Shanaya Wadkar (Ammi).

In the Best Direction, the 1st prize (Rs 1,500) was bagged by Anant S Kamat Bambolkar (Urja), 2nd prize (Rs 1,000) by Kiran Patel (She Who Dared To Dream), and 3rd prize (Rs 500) Sai Gangaram Kalangutkar (Who Had A Fall). Technical awards included Best Setting (Rs 1,000) Yash Naik (Urja), Best Costume
(Rs 1,000) Chaitanya Khandolkar (She Who Dared To Dream), Best Makeup (Rs 1,000) Alok Barve (Wings Of Fire), Best Lighting (Rs 1,000) Sahil Satish Bandodkar (Urja), and Best Background Music (Rs 1,000) Sai Gangaram Kalangutkar.

Best Playwright awards went to Dr Tanvi S Kamat Bambolkar (1st prize, Rs 2,000, Urja) and Sandeep Doifode (2nd prize, Rs 1,000, Who Had A Fall).

The competition was judged by Dilip Dhargalkar, Ajit Kamat, and Uday
Dhupkar.
