New Delhi: The Government of India continues to undertake sustained efforts to modernise the country’s power sector through international cooperation, policy reforms, technological upgradation and promotion of green and digital energy solutions. These initiatives aim to ensure reliable, affordable and sustainable electricity supply while supporting India’s clean energy transition and long-term energy security.

This information was provided by the Union Minister of State for Power Shripad Naik, in a reply to an Unstarred Question in the Rajya Sabha today.

The Ministry of Power actively engages with foreign governments, multilateral institutions and industry representatives to explore international partnerships in power generation, transmission and distribution. Such engagements are pursued through global and regional platforms including G20, BRICS, Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM), International Solar Alliance (ISA), Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), SASEC, SAARC, BIMSTEC, ASEAN and the One Sun One World One Grid (OSOWOG) initiative. Public Sector Undertakings under the Ministry also enter into commercial agreements with foreign entities in accordance with their operational and business requirements.

Significant steps have been taken to promote digitalisation and integration of renewable energy, including policy support for energy storage systems, waiver of inter-state transmission charges for battery energy storage projects, and launch of a Viability Gap Funding scheme for large-scale battery storage.

Renewable Energy Management Centres have been established across the country under the Green Energy Corridor scheme to facilitate forecasting, scheduling and monitoring of renewable energy. Additional measures include strengthening transmission infrastructure, mandating flexibilisation of thermal power plants, and enforcing grid codes and technical standards to ensure secure and reliable grid operations.

Through these initiatives, the Government is building a resilient, sustainable and future-ready power sector that supports India’s economic growth and clean energy ambitions, said Union Minister Shripad Naik.
