S2 Strikers and Govindraj Legends opened the Sarsangan Commonwealth Developers +40 Men’s Cricket Series with victories at the Arlem Cricket Ground on Tuesday, setting the tone for a competitive tournament on Tuesday.
Govindraj Legends chased down 179 set by Mapusa DC to win the game by four wickets. Batting first, the Mapusa posted 178 for 9 in their 20 overs, with Pankaj Naik top-scoring with 36. The Legends’ bowlers were led by Sudin Kamat (2-17) and Nikhil Virginkar (2-27).
In reply, Sahish Mahambrey (33) and Swapneel Nachinolkar (33) anchored the innings. Nikhil Virginkar was named MOTM, while Pankaj Naik (Best Batter), Sudin Kamat (Best Bowler), Deval Karmali (Super Striker) and Gaurish Shenvi Lotlikar (Impact Player) received individual awards.
Earlier, S2 Strikers, defeated Brahmaputra Bulls by seven wickets. The Bulls had posted 171 for 6, with Siddhesh Prabhudesai Alvenkar top-scoring with 38.
The Strikers’ openers Sandeep Thali (35) and Sarvesh Kamat (40) put on a brisk 61-run stand, while Shiraj Pai Khot (27) and Rakesh Mallya (35) ensured a smooth chase, reaching 175 for 3 in 19 overs.
