They beat S2 Strikers by a narrow five-run margin in the final
Arlem: Govindraj Legends held their nerve in a close finish to defeat S2 Strikers by five runs and lift the Sarsangan Commonwealth Developers +40 Men’s Cricket Series title at the Arlem on Wednesday.
Put in to bat, Govindraj Legends posted 195 for 7 in their 20 overs. After an early setback, Vishwesh Kamat (32) and Sahish Mahambrey steadied the innings, before Nikhil Virginkar’s unbeaten 33 provided late momentum. Samrudh Hegde Desai and Rakesh Mallya took two wickets each for S2 Strikers.
In reply, the Strikers slipped to 50 for 3 despite a brisk start, but a fightback led by Siddhesh Bodke (37), Siddesh Desai (34) and Samrudh Hegde Desai (22) kept the chase alive, leaving 15 runs to be scored off the final over.
Sahish Mahambrey then held his nerve, conceding just nine runs in the decisive over as the Strikers finished on 190 for 7. Amith Kamat led the bowling effort with two wickets.
Amith Kamat was named Man of the Match, while Siddhesh Alvencar was adjudged Player of the Series. Other award winners included Sarvesh Kamat (Best Batter of the Series), Siddhesh Bodke (Best Bowler of the Series), Laxmikant Kurade (Best Wicketkeeper), Amith Kamat (Best Fielder) and Sudin Kamat (Best Catch).
Earlier, Brahmaputra Bulls defeated Mapusa Dream Crushers by 35 runs in the third-place playoff.
