The Disability Rights Association of Goa (DRAG) has alleged that in a recent recruitment notification issued by the Goa Staff Selection Commission, posts have not been reserved for persons with disabilities (PwDs) despite statutory provisions mandating such reservation.

In a representation submitted to the authorities, the association said that, through an advertisement, the commission has notified 722 posts across various government departments.

“However, not a single post has been reserved for persons with disabilities, even though several posts are identified as suitable for them,” DRAG alleged.

According to the association, the absence of reservation has denied at least 29 persons with disabilities the opportunity for gainful employment.

The organisation said this was a “blatant violation” of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, which mandates that every government department reserve four per cent of its posts for PwDs.

The association further alleged that the advertisement gives preference to candidates employed by the Goa Human Resources Development Corporation. It said that the corporation does not maintain reservation for persons with disabilities, thereby denying them equal opportunity.
