Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced that the state government is working towards a target of 168 libraries across the state, of which 20 have already been completed to promote digital learning.

“We are investing in knowledge, nurturing reading habits, and focusing on human development as we move towards Viksit Bharat 2047,” Sawant said on Monday.

The Ponda Municipal Library, along with the E-Library facility in the Upper Bazar Market Complex building, was inaugurated by the Chief Minister.

Present were municipality chairperson Virendra Dhavalikar, and Kala Mandir chairperson Ritesh Naik, among others.

He also announced that an e-library initiative, supported through grants from the Central government, will be rolled out across the state. The digital project is expected to improve access to books and educational resources by making them available online.

Meanwhile, citizens visiting the E-Library continue to face hardship in reaching the second floor, where the library premises is located, as the lift in the market complex has been non-functional for the last few months.

Basic amenities such as toilets also have not
been installed.

While the e-library has been renovated, the newspaper section remains in a dilapidated condition. The absence of access for specially-abled persons to access the library has raised questions among citizens.
