Agitating villagers of Mirabag have warned the state government that if the bandhara project is not scrapped within the next two days, they will stage a dharna at the Azad Maidan, Panaji.
They also said that they would storm the Assembly complex on Friday.
One of the leaders of the agitation, Sanket Bhandari told reporters that the government is taking
them for granted.
“WRD AE Shantaram Gaonkar had given us written assurance that they will commence filling the pit dug by the contractor from Monday. The pit is filled with water and poses danger to the lives of the people. But nothing has been done. Only a fencing of tin sheets has been erected. The stagnant water has become a breeding place for mosquitoes and water-borne diseases. We shall lodge a complaint in this respect in the office of the Health Officer of CHC Curchorem,” he said.
Villagers had on Friday morning gheraoed WRD assistant engineer Gaonkar at his office in Pajimol, Sanguem, demanding a written assurance on when the pit dug up for the bandhara work would be filled.
Bhandari has also appealed to the PWD (Roads) to withdraw the NOC given to the contractor for laying the water pipeline at Mirabag, stating that the contractor had not observed the norms and conditions laid down for laying the pipeline.
Another leader, Mangaldas Naik, said that all the government authorities, including local MLAs, are silent over the matter and their agitation.
He warned the Chief Minister not to be under the impression that their agitation will die off. “At any cost, whatever may come, we shall stop only when the project is scrapped,”
he said.
