Goa CM Sawant to be honoured today

Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth will confer Honorary D. Litt. degree upon three eminent personalities, including Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant in recognition of their contributions to society.

The other recipients will be A Mahesh Kumar Reddy, Chairman of AMR Group and renowned hospitality expert and Chef Hemant Oberoi.

The honorary degrees will be conferred during the 44th convocation ceremony of Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth, scheduled to be held on March 14.

President of Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth Trust Dr Rohit Tilak said that Sawant has played a significant role in advancing development in Goa by introducing innovative policies and initiatives with active participation from the public.

Through the initiative ‘Swayampurna Goa’, he has strengthened local production and contributed to the economic progress of the state, Tilak said. He said Sawant’s programme ‘Swayampurna Mitra’ has effectively ensured that the benefits of government schemes reach citizens at the grassroots level.

Additionally, the ‘Mhaje Ghar’ housing scheme has helped many residents secure dignified housing, Tilak said. He further said that under Sawant’s leadership, Goa has pursued balanced industrial development while preserving its natural heritage.

In recognition of Sawant’s leadership and service to the state, the Vidyapeeth has chosen to confer the honorary D.Litt. degree upon him, Tilak said. Notably, Sawant is also an alumnus of Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth, Tilak said.
