Panaji: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday stated that sufficient stock of LPG cylinders for domestic use is available in the state, while commercial users such as hotels and restaurants will receive only 20 per cent of their usual supply.
Sawant chaired a high-level meeting at Mantralaya on Friday to review the reported shortage of gas cylinders in the state. The meeting was attended by the Chief Secretary, the Secretary (Civil Supplies), the Director of Civil Supplies and Goa heads of the oil companies.
“There is no need to panic for domestic LPG cylinders in the state. However, we appeal to people that they have to strictly book cylinders online and LPG cylinders will be delivered within 25 days of online booking,” Sawant said, while addressing concerns over the reported shortage.
He added that commercial users will temporarily receive only 20 per cent of their usual supply as there is an 80 per cent cut in their supply in accordance with guidelines from the Government of India.
Sawant also stated that industrial gas supply will remain suspended until further notice.
“Industrial gas supply will remain shut for now. Piped natural gas users should stick to using the PNG connection,” Sawant said.
To monitor distribution, the state government has appointed taluka nodal officers from the Directorate of Civil Supplies to oversee gas agencies in different regions and submit daily reports on supply.
Rejecting panic, the Chief Minister appealed to the public to remain calm and stated, “I have urged the citizens not to create a panic situation in the state. We will follow the guidelines of the Union Petroleum Ministry. I hope the problem will be resolved soon.”
