The opening day of the third week of the Budget Session of the state legislative Assembly began with two adjournments of the House after Opposition members stormed into the Well of the House while protesting the non-admittance of 21 Private Members’ Bills, including the proposed Goa Protection of Agricultural Lands Bill.
Opposition MLAs led by Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao attended the Assembly dressed in black for the second consecutive day of the session and raised slogans demanding that their bills be admitted.
The Opposition members shouted “Amka Jai, Amka Jai, Amchi Bila Amka Jai,” insisting that their bills be taken up for discussion. Alemao also moved an adjournment motion seeking discussion on the issue.
Amid the uproar, Speaker Ganesh Gaonkar first adjourned the House for 30 minutes. When proceedings resumed at 12.15 pm, the Opposition again raised the issue and continued their protest in the Well of the House, forcing the Speaker to adjourn the House again until 1 pm.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant told the Opposition that Friday was the day earmarked for Private Members’ Bills and urged Opposition MLAs not to waste a working Monday of the legislative assembly.
