Panaji : One of the alleged Bangladeshi dacoits Noor Islam alias Nadim Khan has a criminal history in Goa and was instrumental in bringing the gang to commit dacoities in Dona Paula in April 2025 and another in October 2025 in Mapusa, the Goa Police said on Friday.
Of the six accused, the police have obtained the custody of five dacoits, while one accused – Zakir Hauladar – is still in the custody of the Delhi Police, who arrested the gang members last month.
According to the police, the accused did not use regular modes of communication, so as to avoid identification.
It has also come to light that Noor Islam reportedly paid Rs 4,000 to one Mahmmod (46).
Mahmmod, who hails from Uttar Pradesh but a resident of Calangute, was paid to provide logistics to burgle the house of a well-known business family in Dona Paula.
Director General of Police Alok Kumar during a media briefing at the police headquarters in the city said the Goa Police had identified the accused. However, police teams were trailing by a few hours.
The gang has had a criminal history in India since 2010.
Goa Police teams had been sent to various cities to trace the accused involved in the dacoities.
“Meticulous investigation, including CCTV footage, technical surveillance, the accumulation of criminal records of the accused through intelligence networks across the country, was done. We had been coordinating with various police forces including the Border Security Force,” Kumar disclosed.
“Members of the gang were identified by the Goa Police and their details and antecedents were shared with the police of other states,” Kumar said.
The five accused – Md. Nasir, Noor Islam alias Nadim Khan, Md. Saiful Islam, Sohail Khan, Md. Suman Hauladar alias Babu alias Pappu, all from Bagerhat district of Bangladesh – are currently in the Goa Police custody.
Crime branch SP Rahul Gupta said the investigation in the Dona Paula dacoity case has revealed that Noor had been helped by Mahmmod, who provided logistics to commit the dacoity and was arrested on October 30, 2025 by the Panaji police.
Noor Islam and Mahmmod were lodged in the Colvale jail between 2023-2024; they became friends, Gupta said.
In the Mapusa dacoity case it was established that one of the other main accused Saiful Islam was provided shelter by Raju B and Safikul Rohul Amir, both from Karnataka, and were arrested on October 14, 2025.
The Bangladeshi dacoits had targeted the bungalow of a prominent doctor in Ganeshpuri, Mapusa, in the early hours of October 7. The accused tied up family members, including an elderly woman, and decamped with cash and gold jewellery worth around Rs 35 lakh.
Similarly, in Dona Paula, the dacoits reportedly stole 1 kg gold ornaments and cash.
The police said the accused are involved in four more such cases in other states.
Dacoits sneaked into India via Meghalaya
Panaji: The preliminary interrogation of the accused has revealed that they sneaked into India from Bangladesh through Meghalaya borders.
“It is revealed that some of the gang members used to do the reconnaissance of targeted residential localities. The accused stayed in nearby secluded/jungle areas for one to two days observing sleeping and waking up timings of families,” crime branch SP Rahul Gupta said.
He said the gang also observed the number of family members and easiest entry in the house.
“They used to divide themselves into small groups of two to three members to avoid being noticed. They used to keep fixed meeting points such as bus stands, railway stations and beaches,” Gupta said.
The accused were well equipped with weapons to threaten house owners and face any retaliation from targeted houses.
Weapons such as rods and knives were purchase in local markets.
“Upon gaining unlawful entry into the said bungalows, the accused assessed internal layout, identified locked and unlocked rooms, and selectively targeted accessible areas for committing dacoity,” Gupta elaborated.
