Around two lakh people are expected to participate in the International Day of Yoga celebrations on June 21 at more than 1,000 locations across Goa from
6 am onwards, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said on Tuesday while appealing to people to join the event and help set a new world record.
Government employees, teachers and students have been asked to mandatorily attend yoga sessions in
their vicinity and upload photographs, even though June 21 falls on a Sunday.
Participants will be issued online certificates. The participation count will be announced at 12 noon.
Addressing a press conference, Sawant also urged people to join the Guinness World Record attempt for the largest simultaneous online yoga session being organised by the Ministry
of AYUSH. “The programme aims to encourage wider community engagement in fitness and holistic well-being activities,” he said.
Stating that Goa witnessed an encouraging response last year, with around 15,000 participants and more than 1,000 venues hosting yoga sessions across the state, Sawant said the government’s target this year is to cross two lakh participants and create a new record.
He also urged temples
and churches to host yoga sessions on their premises and said trained yoga instructors would be provided free of cost.
