India seek 1st win on UK tour

Off-colour Bishnoi is likely to be replaced by Prince Yadav

Nottingham: India will be desperate to register their first victory of the UK tour when they take on England in the third T20I at Trent Bridge on Tuesday after suffering three defeats in four matches, including a 0-2 series loss to Ireland.

Under skipper Shreyas Iyer, India have looked far from convincing, with bowling and batting concerns surfacing at crucial moments. The biggest selection change is expected in the bowling department, with out-of-form leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi likely to make way for pacer Prince Yadav. Bishnoi endured a forgettable outing in Manchester, conceding 60 runs in four overs, including a costly 29-run over, while his three back-foot no-balls further hurt India’s chances.

Trent Bridge is expected to offer a good batting surface, but India will need a more disciplined bowling effort after failing to defend totals of 189 and 190 in the last two games. Arshdeep Singh struck early in Manchester with three wickets but proved expensive later, while Varun Chakravarthy has struggled to replicate his earlier effectiveness.

The batting has revolved largely around Abhishek Sharma, who has produced brisk knocks in both matches. Skipper Iyer, Ishan Kishan and Tilak Varma have made starts without dominating, while youngster Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will hope to make a bigger impact after getting his debut out of the way.

With England’s attack continuing to exploit bounce, movement and variations effectively, India will require a significantly improved all-round display to avoid another disappointing result.
