The High Court of Bombay at Goa on Monday extended the interim stay on the entry of the mega vessel into the Mandovi River until the next date of hearing.
Hearing a petition challenging the entry of the new vessel, MV Deltin Royale, into the Mandovi River, the High Court had earlier observed that, as the vessel did not possess a certificate of survey, it deemed it appropriate to direct that the vessel should not sail into Panaji Port, in the river, without obtaining all the required certifications.
On Monday, counsel for the state said that an affidavit had been filed. Counsel for the petitioner said that the petitioner had received a copy of the affidavit in reply and sought an adjournment to enable the filing of a rejoinder.
“Rejoinder to be filed within two weeks. List
the matter on August 18 at 2.30 pm. Interim order dated May 6 to continue in operation till the next
date of hearing,” the High Court said.
The PIL, filed by Enough is Enough, challenges the permissions granted for replacing the existing 70-seat casino vessel in the Mandovi with one having a capacity of 2,000.
