Panaji: The Goa Police Drug Disposal Committee (DDC) on Wednesday destroyed 46.363 kg of narcotic drugs seized in 18 cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at various police stations, including the Anti Narcotic Police Station.
The narcotics, valued at approximately Rs 2.02 crore, were disposed of through high-temperature incineration at the authorised facility of Biotic Waste Solutions Private Limited at the Kundaim Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), in accordance with the provisions of the NDPS Act and the NDPS (Seizure, Storage, Sampling and Disposal) Rules.
The destruction process was carried out in the presence of Director General of Police Alok Kumar, who witnessed the disposal exercise. The proceedings were supervised by the Drug Disposal Committee headed by DIGP (ANC) Ved Prakash Surya. Other members of the committee included SP (ANC) Sunita Sawant, SP (PHQ) Tushar Vernekar and Director of Food and Drugs Administration Shweta Dessai.
A senior police officer said periodic destruction of seized narcotics was an essential part of enforcement under the NDPS Act, as it ensured that the seized substances does not re-enter the illegal market while maintaining the integrity of the judicial process. Goa Police said the disposal of seized narcotic substances was being carried out as part of its enforcement of the NDPS Act and action against drug trafficking.
