The District and Sessions Court, North Goa, on Monday dismissed the bail application of Greek national Sokratis Michailidis, 59, who was arrested by Anjuna police in connection with a drug seizure involving suspected charas and ecstasy worth over Rs 23 lakh.

The court said the applicant is a foreign national and had submitted voluminous documents to the court and the investigating officer, who was in the process of verifying the records with the authorities concerned.

The court also said the applicant had not furnished GST registration and there was no assertion that any GST registration had been obtained. During the investigation, the investigating officer did not find the registered office of ‘Renana Clothing Pvt Ltd’. The court said there was therefore ground to believe that the documents had been manipulated.

It said the applicant had not complied with the directions given in the case of Obineri Soupuru Isaish and dismissed the bail application. The investigating officer had said in the say that the applicant had not furnished income tax returns or any other documentation filed by him pertaining to ‘Renana Clothing Pvt
Ltd’ and that the applicant was nowhere connected to the business.

In March, Anjuna police arrested the Greek national during a raid in Assagao for alleged illegal possession of drugs suspected to be charas and ecstasy worth around Rs 23.81 lakh.

Police said Michailidis was found in possession of suspected charas worth around Rs 22.71 lakh and ecstasy worth around Rs 1.10 lakh. Police had registered an offence under the NDPS Act against the accused.
