Decorated canoes carrying tableaux made their way through the Cumbarjua canal on Sunday as the traditional Sangod Utsav marked the end of the seven-day Ganesh Chaturthi festival at Shri Shantadurga Kumbharjuvekarin Devi Temple. The Sangods, made by joining two canoes, carried tableaux depicting scenes from the Ramayana and Mahabharata, historical figures and social messages. Fire acts were also performed during the procession.
Earlier, the idol was carried in a palanquin for immersion. The Sangod Utsav is organised by the local panchayat and villagers and has been held annually for the past 15 years.
