DEEPIKA RATHOD

Gudmar, also known as Gymnema sylvestre, is a woody climbing shrub native to India and Africa that has been used in traditional medicine for centuries. Its leaves are primarily used in herbal remedies and contain natural compounds such as tannins, saponins and gymnemic acid.

Here are some of its potential health benefits:

May help reduce inflammation: The tannins and saponins in Gudmar have anti-inflammatory properties. Chronic inflammation has been linked to conditions such as diabetes, heart disease and arthritis.

May help manage sugar cravings and blood sugar: Gymnemic acid, a key compound in Gudmar, may temporarily reduce the ability to taste sweetness when consumed before sweet foods or drinks, potentially helping to curb sugar cravings. Gudmar may also reduce the absorption of sugar in the intestines, which can help regulate blood sugar levels.

May support insulin production: Gudmar may stimulate insulin secretion and has been studied for its potential role in supporting insulin-producing cells in the pancreas, which may help with blood sugar regulation. May support weight management: Gudmar may help control appetite when taken before meals, potentially reducing food intake and supporting weight management.

May support heart health: Gudmar has been studied for its potential anti-atherosclerotic properties. By helping to reduce the build-up of plaque in the arteries, it may support cardiovascular health.

May support liver health: Gudmar has hepatoprotective properties and may help protect the liver from damage caused by certain toxins and other harmful substances.

Gudmar is available in various forms, including capsules, powders, teas and extracts. It is often taken before meals, depending on the formulation and intended use. However, it is important to consult a healthcare professional before adding Gudmar to your routine, particularly if you have a medical condition or take medication.

When used mindfully and with appropriate guidance, Gudmar may be a useful addition to a balanced approach to health and wellbeing.
