Mbappe brace hands Mourinho a 2-1 win on his first return to Camp Nou
Barcelona: Kylian Mbappe struck twice as Real Madrid defeated Barcelona 2-1 in El Clasico on Sunday, handing Jose Mourinho a winning return to Camp Nou and ending the hosts’ perfect start to the La Liga season.
Mbappe opened the scoring in the 41st minute when Gerard Martin’s attempted clearance ricocheted off him and into the net. Barcelona had an immediate chance to equalise, but Lamine Yamal squandered a gilt-edged opportunity from close range before the break.
Raphinha restored parity in the 61st minute, collecting Pedri’s pass and firing through Jude Bellingham’s legs for his league-leading 13th goal of the season.
However, Real sealed victory three minutes from time when substitute Eduardo Camavinga chased down a long ball, drew goalkeeper Joan Garcia off his line and squared for Mbappe to tap home.
The result denied Barcelona a record-breaking 10th consecutive win to start a La Liga campaign, leaving them level with the mark of nine straight victories set by Real Madrid in the 1968-69 season.
The defeat also compounded Barcelona’s difficult week after their 4-2 Champions League loss to Paris Saint-Germain, while Mourinho celebrated a memorable return against his former club with a decisive Clasico triumph.
