Manovikas English Medium High School, Margao, celebrated Portugal Day with a display of Portuguese culture, music, and cuisine.
The event began with students in traditional attire performing an upbeat action song. A cultural presentation introduced students to aspects of Portuguese heritage, including Azulejos (decorative tiles) and traditional sweets like Pastel de Santa Clara and Papo de Anjo. Grade 6 students sang a Portuguese folk song, while Grade 8 enacted the Carnation Revolution of April 25, 1975. The programme also had lively performances set to modern Portuguese music.
Principal Maria Norman praised the efforts of students and staff, calling the event “a meaningful way to promote cultural learning and global awareness.” She added, “It’s a proud moment for Manovikas to be among the few schools celebrating Portugal Day.”
Later, students prepared Pasteis de Nata under the guidance of culinary instructors Vinayak Rokade and Manuela Dias. The celebration also included a Portuguese Spell Bee and a singing competition.
